House Moving and Relocations – Budgeting Considerations

If you’ve moved before, you’ll be aware of the daunting tasks associated with relocating your belongings and family. The moving process requires undertaking critical research in order to achieve the desired outcome. There are several realities you’ll need to come to terms with, realities which go beyond the packing and shipping element of the relocation process.

home moving specialistsBefore we move on, Brisbane Removalists offers a downloadable  moving checklist to help you get started with packing and preparing for your move.

For overseas relocations, there are many obstacles you’ll need to take on board, such as a new culture and possible language barriers. Will there be available facilities you’ve become accustomed to from your previous residence? How will you find suitable accommodation and schooling for the children? What resources do you have available to conduct research into foreign real estate markets? Many of these questions also apply to moving interstate.

By choosing an experienced team of furniture removal consultants who have an in-depth knowledge of the new region or country you are relocating to, you’ll be able to draw upon their experience in relation to sourcing local schools, real estate and amenities. A professional interstate and overseas relocation service who has years of local experience across a multitude of locations can be an invaluable asset in steering you in the right direction for finding your feet in a new location. Partnering with a professional moving company is invaluable, particularly when they can offer you their own life experiences which have been culminating for many years through their work.

There is a wealth of details you’ll need to address for remaining organised throughout the moving process. If you are hoping to maintain the lifestyle you currently have, you’ll need to consider your budget. Here’s a few tips to think about:

Location

In your search to locate the most ideal property, you’ll need to grasp the associated costs of your new location. Also factor in things like distances between home, work and school and make sure you can afford the travel costs that go with this. You may need to compromise depending on housing availability – sometimes it’s all about the timing, and a little bit of luck.

Schooling

The cost of education can be expensive, and catering for the same level of education curriculum for your children will most likely be high on your list of priorities. You will also need to find out if their current education plan is recognised in their new education system, or whether they will need to re sit exams to qualify for their desired elective studies.

Health

Associated health cover and its availability is another equally important topic you’ll need to get on top of. Keep in mind that if you are moving to a new county, visa requirements stipulate that comprehensive health insurance is mandatory.

Sport

Does your family, or family members rely on certain sporting facilities? You will also need to take a close look at membership costs associated with sporting clubs: Gyms, tennis, golf and dance studios etc. It’s important to be able to have access to such facilities so take a close look at the on-going fees.

International movers have offices world-wide and can play a key role in helping you and your family establish yourselves. You’ll be looking to lay the foundations as fast as possible and maximizing your budget as best as possible. Regardless of whether you are moving locally, interstate or internationally, finding the right service to help you move goes way beyond the relocation itself.

Home Removals – How to Get the Lowest Quote

Planning a house removal can be a traumatic experience as well as an expensive one. There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of removalists ready to compete for your job but you must have a plan of action worked out in advance so you can not only choose the right removalist, but also get one at the right price.

If you are working to a strict budget you are more likely willing to do some of the work yourself, even to the extent of hiring a truck and doing the complete removal. This can be a money-saving move but also one fraught with danger. If you have some heavy items particularly refrigerators and washing machines, it can be risky to attempt to move these yourself. Any mishap can result in your property being damaged and the money you save on the removal will be more than offset with the expense of having to replace damaged goods. Remember, insurance may not cover self removals and this places you at an even greater risk. If you’re looking to save money, you can still get a good deal by negotiating with the removalist and having a peace of mind that comes with engaging a professional service. Here are some things you can do to reduce the cost of using a house removalist.

  • Do all the packing yourself. This means purchasing all the boxes, wrapping paper and packaging tape yourself and having everything ready for the removalist to simply come in and take the boxes from your house. Although this might appear to be a daunting task it is easy once you get started. The hardest room to pack is generally the kitchen. This is because you have to individually wrap every plate, cup, and saucer, and you have to do this carefully to avoid breakages. Be prepared to use as much paper as possible to give your goods the protection they need so they are well cushioned during the move. A few dollars spent on extra packing paper will be well worth it if you come through the other end unscathed.
  • Reduce the time you removalists takes to perform the move by clearly labelling every box so that it can be placed in the appropriate room in your new home. It is easy to colour code boxes or clearly label them with large print stickers so there is no doubt in the removalist mind as to where they are to be located. If you are on hand at your new house you can easily assist the removalist by telling them where to place each box in your new house too.
  • Make sure you get at least five quotes. When you are obtaining quotes make sure you ask the same questions and tell each removalist the same thing about your move. This is particularly the case when you are doing everything yourself so all they have to quote on is the provision of a truck and labour for the minimum time necessary to effect the move.

These three simple steps and save you plenty of money were engaging removalists and will certainly make your move much easier.

How to Choose a Removalist for Your Australia Move

The last thing you want to deal with on moving day is shady or unreliable removalists. You’ve heard the horror stories before — removalists who don’t show up, or who arrive hours late with a crew half the size of what you were promised. The time to find out what you can expect from a removalist service is when you are researching alternatives. On the day of your move, it’s too late to step back and start asking questions designed to help you figure out if you are dealing with a reputable removalist or not.

What to Look for When Hiring a Removalist

Hiring the right removalist is a necessity if you want to enjoy a move that goes as smoothly as possible. If you want to make sure that you are hiring a top quality removalist who will show up, do the work you requested, and handle your possessions with care, you need to check the facts before making your final selection. Signs that you are hiring a reputable, professional removalist include:

o The company has been in business five or more years.

o The company has a website that conveys a professional image.

o The company can provide proof of bonding and proper insurance coverage.

o The moving trucks are company trucks, branded with the company image.

o The organization has and is willing to share client testimonial phone numbers.

o They have 1300 or 1800 phone number and a physical office location.

It is in your best interest to use this checklist when hiring a removalist. This is the best way to make sure that you are dealing only with professional removalists who are truly qualified to transport your belongings. Professional removalists with well-trained employees are going to be able to pass this checklist. Fly-by-night “so-called” removalists will not have these credentials.

When your removalist meets the above criteria, you are not likely to experience a moving day horror story caused by choosing the wrong company. When you deal with professionals, you know they have good and reliable equipment. You can be comfortable that they do carry insurance in the event that an employee is injured on your property or that your possessions are damaged. You also know where there office is located, in case you need to track them down to deal with a problem once the move is complete.

What to Avoid When Hiring Removalist

Most people who end up experiencing a removalist nightmare realize that there were signs along the way that they might not be dealing with a legitimate company. Watch for the following signs, and avoid hiring removalists that fit this description:

o No one ever answers the phone when you call them.

o No physical address on the business card.

o Requests for payment in advance of the move.

o Requires payment in cash only.

o The company does not have a website.

o The moving truck is a pickup truck.

o They are not listed in the telephone directory

Make Smart Choices for Your Move

For ultimate protection when you move to a new home, hire a reputable removalist and take out your own transit insurance, just in case something does go wrong. Accidents can happen, even with professional removalists. There is no good reason to hire a removalist who doesn’t represent a professional and legitimate business. Taking a chance by choosing the cheapest removalist you can find isn’t worth the potential cost in the long run.

How to Find the Right Removals Company

Moving house can be a traumatic experience even after you have made several moves.  It’s great to have a plan to work to, do your inventory and map out where the furniture will be placed in your new home, but if you don’t choose the right removalist company, everything can come unstuck on the day and leave you with a mess to clean up.

There are plenty of interstate removalists to choose from, but making the choice can be quite difficult if you don’t know what you’re looking for.  Let’s take a look at some things you can do to make sure your choice is the correct one so that you can have a stress free move.

  • Get as many quotes as possible. With plenty of interstate removalists competing for your business, it’s easy to get a number of quotes so you can easily compare costs. The important thing is to get these quotes well enough in advance so you have time to make a considered decision. Some of the larger companies will offer a packing service and smaller ones will not. It all comes down to your budget so make sure you compare apples with apples when getting these quotes.
  • It is very easy to underestimate the amount of time it takes to obtain quotes and then make a decision. It’s vital to give yourself several months where ever possible as some companies might take up to 2 or three weeks to provide you with a detailed quote. It is not uncommon for removalist companies to be booked up several months in advance, that’s why it’s important to start the planning process as far ahead as possible.
  • One of the best ways to get the most competitive quote is to have a plan of your new properties access points so the removalists have a better idea as to how long everything will take on the day. If there are lifts or a lot of stairs to climb try to find alternative access routes and talk them over with the removalist to find the easiest and quickest solution.
  • Remember to make sure you are insured properly. Most removalists will be able to arrange a quote for you and it is vital to have adequate cover. If you have specific valuables that are being moved, for instance pianos or expensive antiques, make sure you advise the removalist of your requirements so that the quote can be as accurate as possible.
  • Don’t be afraid to negotiate the price. If you prefer one company over another for whatever reason, see whether you can negotiate a cheaper price by letting them know what other companies have offered you. Also, look at alternative days of the week to make your move. Weekends can be much more expensive than weekdays and it might be possible to negotiate a discount on this basis.

If the interstate removalists you are considering are able to satisfy all of the above criteria, you are in a fairly good position to make a decision.

3 Tips for Office Furniture Removals

Moving office need not be a traumatic experience. If you plan far enough in advance and consult your removalists about the logistics of your move you can make a very smooth transition with minimal disruption to your business.

Although the complexity of the move will vary with the size and type of organisation, there are still several common tasks that every office manager will want to make sure off so that the move goes off without a hitch.

Here, we are going to look at three essential points for organising an office removal and although there are several other aspects that still need to be taken care of these tips are sure to get you off on the right foot.

  • Before the move, make sure each of your staff is aware of his or her responsibilities especially in relation to packing up their own office. Naturally, this assumes you will have already involved them in the planning process so they will have a picture in their mind of their new office and will be ready to move into it with little disruption. This preparation should also include ensuring you have sufficient electrical and telephone connections in each room at the new location to allow for current needs, and also any possible future expansion plans.
  • Notify your customers, business partners, local governance service providers and any other interested parties of your change of address several weeks in advance. You can do this by including a sticker with every letter that goes out at least one month prior to the move. Receptionists should also be trained to tell all callers of your pending change of address and any messages on hold can also be used to inform the caller of the change. Update your website with an easy to read alert about the change of address and phone numbers and make sure all staff amend their e-mail and phone messages to tell callers of the changes too. Tell your telephone service provider about your pending change so that all calls to the old number can be redirected without interruption.
  • One of the most important things you can do prior to the move is to check that you have the best removalist for the task. You can do this by checking business references and contacting old clients to see how happy they were with their services. Now, after you have made this decision it is vital to have all your computer network requirements set up and tested at least a few weeks prior to your arrival at your new office. Avoid any computer upgrades at this time and wait until after you have moved in before making any further changes. Make sure your vital office equipment including fax machines and photocopiers are in place before the move begins so that you can hit the ground running once the staff have unpacked their personal boxes. Provide every staff member with a layout plan of the office so they can visualise it before they arrive.

Although these three points are not meant to be an exhaustive checklist, you and your removalists will have a much easier time of it if you have taken care of these points.

Unregulated Furniture Removals In Sydney – Why An Afra Removalist Should Always Be Used

The Australian Furniture Removal industry is an unregulated mess. Basically, anyone with a truck can call themselves a professional furniture removalist. All they need is an advertisement in the local newspaper and a mobile phone. These fly-by-night ‘removalists’ will demand cash after the job as often they possess no legitimate company bank account. And lookout when things go wrong – because things will go wrong ; the consumer will have no way of enforcing any action as the company was not even registered and no physical address exists.

Using an AFRA member is the main rule when choosing a furniture removalist. AFRA is the Australian Furniture Removers Association. To become an AFRA member removalist companies must reach the required standard in areas such as staff training, correct insurance policies, correct equipment, suitable premises, secure storage facilities and a competent trading record. All AFRA members will carry the correct public liability and additionally only AFRA members are legally entitled to offer full insurance for goods in transit and storage. AFRA give the following warning notice on their Sydney web site, WARNING : choosing the wrong removalist could cost you thousands of dollars.

During a recent interview, a manager from AFRA removalist Man and His Van stated the following
“Any Saturday, but particularly a Saturday of a long weekend, we take numerous calls from distraught people. These people urgently need help because their removalists have not turned up, or their removalists started the job but decided it was too big, so they left; we often hear about other removalists smashing furniture and walls so the customer sends them away. I will not even tell you about some situations because they are just so incredible”

All consumers in Australia have some protection under the Trade Practices act of 1974. This Act ensures Tradesmen will conduct themselves in a “workman like manner” ; basically it ensures they will do a decent job. However, the Act does have some limitations, for example when a furniture removalist is working for a company rather than a private individual, and when damages occur which are not the fault of the removalist or when the customer did not advise the removalist that some objects were of a brittle or fragile nature. To ensure full peace of mind when moving house it is recommended that the customer always takes out transit insurance with the removalist.

So, be very careful when moving house in Sydney. Always use an AFRA removalist, look for a company that has been trading for at least ten years, ask to see any testimonial letters, only use a company with a physical address and depot, do not pick a removalist from the classified section of the local newspaper, and always take out transit insurance.

Unfortunately, even with AFRA members things can occasionally go wrong, . The difference is AFRA members will efficiently rectify the situation. In the unlikely case that this does not happen then the customer has the right to take the case to an AFRA tribunal where any decision is binding.
